SHOP BOOKS GUIDE
Record-keeping apps for small shops, compared
You run a small shop: a duka, a kiosk, a provision store, a spaza shop. You sell all day, some customers pay later, and stock runs out when you are not looking. A notebook works until it gets wet, lost or full. A phone app can keep the same records and add them up for you. This guide compares the Android apps a shop owner finds on Google Play, and says plainly which one suits which shop.

Best for your situation
- You give credit, and you also buy on credit from suppliers: SokoBook keeps a customer and supplier ledger in one place and can send payment reminders. Sellka also records what customers owe you and what you owe suppliers.
- Your network drops, or data is expensive: Sellka and Offline Shop both say their daily recording works with no connection and with no account.
- You scan barcodes, or a helper uses the till: Zobaze POS has a barcode scanner and separate logins for staff.
- You or your helper read better in another language: Offline Shop lists 29 languages. Sellka has five: English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Swahili.
- You want the app to know as little about you as possible: Daily Sales Record declares on Google Play that it collects no data and shares none.
